About

Richard Hamblen fought the federal government and lost

As a member of the statutorily created state militia of Tennessee, the Tennessee State Guard, he committed an act of civil disobedience to test the extent of the right to keep and bear arms. Subsequently he was punished by spending 13 months in a Federal prison camp for construction of weapons in contravention of the National Firearms Act of 1934. His case was appealed to the US Supreme Court, twice, and his  second petition for writ of certiorari was ultimately denied, without comment, in May of 2010.

Rich Hamblen is a graduate of Vanderbilt University with a degree in Greek & Latin (summa cum laude; 1977), a former officer in the US Army, and a former Battalion Commander in the Tennessee State Guard. He currently owns a business and resides in his hometown of Nashville, TN.
